7.4% New England DIPA / Hazy Imperial IPA
This New Zealand Double IPA is jam-packed with luscious tropical fruit flavours and intense citrus notes. Hints of grapefruit and white grape help to lift the palate and piney characteristics round off for a pleasing finish. The colour on this is the deepest darkest honey/amber I've seen to date! It pours very lively and leaves froth behind. On the nose is a fresh forest of hops, sweet and bitter pine in concert, there's a bit of sharp apple and grape vibes, limes, plum and peach. Can also smell the heady aroma of the 7.4% ABV. Thick and syrupy in the mouth like nectar or honey and the alcohol warmth effect is there from the start. It's alot more tropical in mouth, tasting more like mango and passionfruit with a hint of coconut or banana. The balance between sweet and bitter I'd quite nice, though I'd say it leans toward bitter via a large sway to pine forest in the mid and finish. Guess you could could this a hybrid east / west but it's not, it's NZ hops exclusively as far as I know. So it's subtropical south hemisphere style! It's good to have something different and this is just that, not a west coast and more pine than American NEIPAs. It's fairly heavy as it is a DIPA after all, so not particularly easy drinking but it is pleasant drinking.
