Boulevard seems to be trying to become my favorite Brewery, especially because of their Imperial stouts. This one has a crazy 15% alcohol and has been Bourbon Barrel aged 10 months. Expectations are probably unrealistic but I can't stop it. Ryan hit a home run with this Duo beer. I popped the cap and the aroma from the bottle was strong and flavorful, very boozy. Put a quarter of a snifter glass so I could examine the aroma. Immediately experience the 15% alcohol with strong overtones of cherry. Now for the taste. Velvety smooth texture, so soft on the tongue. Flavor, oh my! The 15% alcohol comes first. Not in a bad way but somehow in a very smooth and friendly way. A dark cherry and equally dark milk chocolate blend with the alcohol perfectly well while also accentuating the oak barrel flavors that it was stored in. The finish brings no surprises. A perfect beginning needs no ending to elevate it. From the very first sip, this beer was a 5.0 rating. Usually, when I start this way, I look for some small fault to bring it down. Not this time, nothing to consider. I know this isn't for everyone, but for me, it's everything I love in a dessert stout. Sweet but not overly sweet. Strong alcohol but not overbearing, especially in the bourbon category. Unique combination of flavors while still well balanced with no one flavor trying to dominate. I feel enriched that I was able to enjoy this spectacular creation. I seriously hope they make a 2023 version of this beer. PS edit: This is probably one of the best 10 beers I have ever experienced.
