Doom Volume: Enhanced, United States
4.3
Having been impressed by Caskets Caskets by The Veil Brewing Co. I decided to go all in on a box full of big big beers. This one is the most tame, being only a IPA opposed to DIPAs and TIPAs to come! I say tame...this is triple dry hopped! I've experienced this extreme dry hop style before and it's lush to say the least. Doom Volume Enhanced pours quite lively but dispurses down to a faint ring, it's bright yellow and opaque. Very juicy on the nose of intense tangerine, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, lychee and dank pine. Lively in the mouth, almost surprisingly so and smooth but not massively thick feeling. Very hoppy as you'd expect with this brew process, tangy, dank and juicy. Pineapple leads for me and the pine is particularly subtle for a true American New England, this is to my approval. I'd much rather dank Strata than dank Mosaic that seems to be alot more piney. Grapefruit flavour provides a brief sharp stab, the aforementioned pineapple taste is sweet but not rich and the finish is hoppy in an equally green and juicy manner. Speaking of the finish, it's actually clean feeling regardless of its projecting length. The green hoppiness is clean somehow and gradually reduces after swallowing. There is some resinous accumulation but not typically so and especially considering the triple dry hop nature. It's beautiful, the green hop flavour is now over shadowing the tropical fruits but it's not total dominance thankfully. That said, it's definitely for the hop-tasting lover. I haven't got a non "enhanced" Doom Volume (great name btw) but I'd guess this enhancement is the TDH. As I've mentioned before, I'm a big fan of excessive dry hopping, inefficient but lusciously decadent. This excess is worth it in my view.
