A lively pour as you'd expect, which soon fizzes out. Deep pink/rouge coloured sour brew that is opaque enough to mask the carbonation. Sharp red fruit on the nose but not explicit or specific fruits jumping out at this stage. First sip is only moderately sour but tis persistent through the mid and finish. Apple is prominent, it tastes like sharp grannie smith with the blackcurrant providing all the red fruit and depth. It's not actually deep though, nor is it complex, simple adjuncts for a simple sour. I can't expect the high quality or barrel ageing of the artisan like Holy Goat, it is a supermarket brew after all. Sours seem to perform better than IPAs in this retail context, no doubt due to a lack of reliance on hops and adjuncts being used correctly and justifiably, unlike smoothie IPAs and the like. The sourness is almost gone after several sips but this brew remains flavourful and reasonably decent. Blackcurrant now takes the lead, or at least, makes a more equal contribution. The Vault City triple mango sour brew from Sainsbury's is nicer, that may be down to my admiration of mango though. This beer is a better choice than many poor IPAs and pales.
