Ooh an American import, how cheeky and it didn't cost me £14 this time! I know nothing of this brewery The Veil Brewing Co. but this is a DDH DIPA, so should be thick, big and beautiful (insert joke here).
Pale and opaque yellow but with a few visible bubbles occasionally breaking out toward the surface. Wow, loads of pineapple on the nose as if it's fresh fruit, there isn't any in here to my knowledge, it's all hops baby. Joining the pineapple is sharp grapefruit and sweet bubble gum. Smells beautiful.
Thick a silky in the mouth, full bodied and a deep, long-lasting finish. Juicy as fook with a strong piney ending that's in equal, or higher, measure. It's very American and reminds me of "Le IPA" by Monkish, very flavourful with slightly too much pine for me, it sticks with you for a long time. That being said it is a good battle between fruit and pine, the battlefield being saturated hops. The only way you get flavour like this is with masses of the green stuff, as it should be. Hops indulgence. This is the type of brew that UK's best look toward and take the lead from.
Such depth for a brew with only two hops: Idaho 7 and Citra, it proves it's all you need. Fruit salad, quad hop line ups aren't required to get a juice bomb as The Veil prove here. £8.50 for an American import DIPA is great really as one of UK's own would and do charge that sometimes. Each little burp brings luscious hops back to your senses which inspires you to take another sip immediately! The balance of this beer improves over time with the fight of fruit Vs pine becoming more inconsequential and instead a peaceful ceasefire and parity emerges.
There is currently two cans left, I'm tempted to go back and grab one whilst they're there.
