Happy New Year !! 🎉🍻 First beer of 2023 needs to be a good one. Son-in-law and I will Duo this Saint Arnold 2020 Commitment with a Hint of Vanilla beer cellar treasure. Modest, deep brown head that dissipates away. A good swirl in the snifter glass leaves a thick film coating. Heavy alcohol aroma with malt and dark chocolate and a mysterious sweetness in the background. Very heavy mouth feel, soft but not sticky. Even at 13.4%, this flavor seems even more alcohol forward. Strong dark chocolate combined with a deep roasted malt. Finish is still powerful, sending huge plumes of alcohol into the navel cavity, roasted malt turns to a char, and the dark chocolate malt reveals a dark cherry in the background. There is a higher amount of bitterness during the finish which is distracting. So well balanced and so smooth. Has almost a Bordeaux wine characteristic. Makes you sad taking the last sip of an excellent 2020 special treat that you will never have again. This is really good stuff.
