A very drinkable barrel aged stout with a mega sherry whisky flavour that smoothly runs into coffee and chocolate. I'd given up hope trying to find this as it had sold out everywhere online by the time I clocked on, found a few dusty examples on a top shelf at Stori - Bala, amazing!

Imperial stout aged in Whiskey sherry cask barrels and weighing in at 13.2, this is gonna be a big big boy. I bought this before Christmas and been saving it for the end of the box and now's the time. Completely opaque black brew with minimal golden brown head retention. Rich on the nose with black treacle, Italian roast coffee and raisin, it also has whiskey and sherry wafting off of it. Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, I can smell the alcohol too. Silky smooth in the mouth with big body and a short clean and even silkier finish. Speaking of the finish, that is where the sweet sherry and warming whiskey are residing. It has decedent chocolate in abundance and the roasted malt is well contained in comparison, so thankfully I'm not getting mega marmite vibes on this brew. The alcohol is also more subdued than on the nose which is a great achievement for such a big imperial. Classic stout chocolate with the huge influence of barrels previously used to infuse sherry into whiskey, it makes for a beautiful beer. The extreme malts required for such a brew are there but they don't run the show, it's all balanced and dare I say dangerously morish. Or it would be if it were an 8% brew! 13.2% demands respect and toe-diping caution. Coming in a normal large can too, not a short stubby. It's a big can of big boy big flavour. The roasted barley and malts blend nicely into the vague dark roast coffee and bolder chocolate. It's delicious and shoots toward the top of my best ever stout list. Definitely second to Goatsmoker for me, but that's a different style, namely smokey. It does beat Holy Goats other stouts though, Night goat and Goblin Cleaver. Does it beat Unbarred's Stoutzilla though? I'm not sure, maybe it doesn't simply because of drinkability, Stoutzilla is a bit easier going and much less sweet as sherry is biggest flavour in Quadquennium. I'm glad I tried this.

Pours a jet black colour with a dissipating tan head. Coffee and chocolate aromas with flavours of coffee and chocolate. Hints of dark fruits with sherry flavours in the aftertaste. Nice stout.
