64 Imperial Stout - Praline, Cocoa Nibs & Sea Salt - 10th Birthday Edition
9.0% Imperial Stout
In lieu of a cake, we’ve brewed a decadent, viscous Imperial Stout to celebrate our 10th birthday. Not one, but four mashes were used to achieve a luxuriously silky texture and full-bodied mouthfeel. Sumptuous praline adds a creamy nut character with bitter cacao and a dash of sea salt contributing nuanced complexity. Size: 250ml

Jet black and completely opaque, not even a torch shines through it, with a nice golden brown head that slowly pops away after a hard pour. This is a small can so dump the whole can into a glass. Praline is the most prominent on the nose combined with cocoa to create a hazelnut chocolate experience much like Nutella or Ferrero Roche. It's silky smooth in the mouth with full body and a long finish. It's very rich and decadent, but my first thoughts are too much praline it rules the roost here, perhaps that perception is bolstered by the roasty yeast nature of a big stout like this. Recent tastings of imperial stouts also lead me to this conclusion. The chocolate element is very nice though, very smooth and sweet like milk chocolate which then turns into a darker affair in the finish, again thanks to roasted barley and mega malt. Sea salt plays a minor role, a decorative touch as it should be for a brew like this, it's not a gose after all. Rich and decadent, decently made and enjoyable, just a bit too much roast and praline for me.
