21 Pale Ale - 2012 LDN Pale - 10th Birthday Edition
5.0% American Pale Ale
One of the range of beers crafted to celebrate our 10th birthday, we have brewed a beer that pays homage to our roots on the iconic Bermondsey Beer Mile. Crisp, bright, and hoppy. We used Chinook, Simcoe and Nelson Sauvin hops and a considered malt bill with Maris Otter and a touch of Munich malt, to create an elegant Pale Ale that represents the quality and consistency we aspired to when we first opened our doors.
Hops: Chinook, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe
Malts: Maris Otter, Munich

Not the 21 Pale you find down the supermarket, that ones a Citra where as this one is a special 10th birthday brew using Simcoe, Chinook and Nelson Sauvin. Very pale and totally clear, it looks really clean, with a gentle sparkle going on. White grape and citrus fruit on the nose. At first whiff it's a boring old ale but second go I noticed the Nelson Sauvin input that gives the grape and lifts Simcoe and Chinook into a soft appetising aroma. Thin and light in the mouth with malty body and a clean short finish. The use of malt in this brew is a noticeable emphasis and a welcome one. This beer is akin to an old English pale ale, malty and fruity, only this one's a bit more refined. Less explicit flavours in the mouth than on the nose, could be my cold, but it think it's the general chutney fruit style these sorts of pales have. I've listed this as a New England pale, a mistake, it's more of a westie as there is a little pine from the Simcoe also this is not juicy and not hazy. Hoppy yes and it tastes like a BBNo, if you know you'll know. Not very exciting, but clean, easy going, nice malt and white grape projecting well beyond any stone fruit Simcoe would like to present.
