A fairly new Stout from a nanobrewery in Orimattila. This is the base version, the brewery also produced a small batch of gin barrel aged edition that I will review in the near future. Brilliant black is the face of the beer. Carbonation brags somewhat. The emerging head is fawn and silky, and climbs to three fingers. The remaining lace ring is billowy and cute, clings neatly to the glass. Burned malt and roasted coffee beans try to seduce my nose. What follows is toasted rye bread. I like the fact that the scent is not shy. It suggests a gustatory experience that is like dry Baltic Porter ...ish. Let's see! And now. How will my tastebuds receive the offer? [...... *sipping* ......] Not what I anticipate. Roasted yes but not burned. Roasted malt. Licorice, reasonably powerful. Bitter syrup. I can also sense alcohol but not taste it. Generally speaking, not nearly as dry as I thought but surely offers Baltic Porter nuances. The body is medium to medium-full. Nice! The finish does actually tweak dryer and a tad burned, even woody. Licorice is still there, even bold and slightly bitter. The aftertaste is the daughter of the village chief, all descended from voyagers who found their way across the world. The mouthfeel is medium-full, roasty, a bit dry and drying. it's also moderately woody and husky.
