Sky at Night, England
3.3
Sky at night is dark and cloudy, at least tonight 🌧️ Carbonation is somewhat shy as a latte-hued head emerges up to the level of one finger. The foamy crown melts soon to a decent ring on the surface. The nose receives astonishingly dry bitter coffee beans and a whisper of raw cocoa powder. Quite a surprise! When the label says "vanilla, cocoa, and coffee" and "pastry stout", I look for sweet mouthwatering nuances. This is completely the opposite. I hope that the taste profile could prove — once again — different from the olfactory supply. [Sipping...] No. It doesn't. The same bitter coffee beans and a considerably smaller injection of raw cocoa pod enter the reach of my tastebuds. If somebody is telling me that this beer contains vanilla, I don't believe. No hint at all. Instead, the malt is roasty, even slightly charred. The body is light. The finish is amply coffeeish, bitter and slightly charred. The aftertaste should embark on its own journey, like the sky, like the sky at night. The mouthfeel is light, roasty, modestly charred, dry and drying. Even astringent to some extent. Well well... had the label said "dry coffee stout", I would have given a relatively good rating to this. Nevertheless, a "pastry stout with vanilla, cocoa and coffee" should have been more pastry-like. A bit of disappointment like this.
