Stakliškės, Lithuania
4.0
Long time, no Mead. It must be corrected now 🐝🍯 Fortunately, Lithuania is a Mead country. I bought a six-pack of Meads, now the first one for tasting. The Meads are in cute 4 cl bottles, which are perfect for tasting these high-ABV, supersweet nectars. I have added three Meads in the app for reviews but not the remaining three since they are so strong (30–50 %) that I don't think they are actually Meads but rather distilled Meads, like liqueurs. Stakliškės is a Metheglin that is a Mead with added herbs or spices. This Mead displays a bright amber color. No carbonation, no head. Looks somewhat slow-moving and thick. The nose picks loads of honey. Additionally, there's a fairly distinct note of juniper berry alongside. The tongue observes hefty honey, to start with. Juniper berry can't be missed in the gustatory experience either. I'm also picking something that I first associate with mint but, after checking the backlabel, it must be lime-tree blossoms. Well indeed, I receive a faint floral hint now that I concentrate on it. Alcohol is neatly hidden. And, as a matter of fact, this is not so oversweet as I anticipated. The mouthfeel is medium-thick, herbal, lip-glueing but surprisingly little so, intense, deep and balanced. I thought that this might be a tough bite for sweetness but it actually proves to be fairly easy. Very good in its own category.
