Small Beer: Bog Bilberry, Finland
3.2
Another homebrew 🍺 The same maltbase as in the previous one but the flavoring is bog bilberry. And again, I picked them myself. The color is cloudy brown with a distinct garnet tint. Carbonation is somewhat reserved, and the emerging head climbs to half a finger. Retention is long although the head shrinks to a neat lace ring. The olfactory segment is really timid. I pick distant cookie and equally remote blackberry. That's it. The flavor package is rather rich in berries, especially blackcurrant, crowberry and damson. Interestingly, I don't spot any blueberry although fresh bog bilberry tastes like mild blueberry. No malt on the tongue at all. The body is light minus. The finish travels along the same lines as before. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds alert for some time. The mouthfeel is light, somewhat tart, a bit puckering and rich in berries. It's surprisingly dry and drying, even astringent. Decent beer but the fresh bog bilberry flavor has transformed into other berry nuances, and I'm missing the blueberry type of flavor.
