Hand Brew Co are another local brewer to me, in fact they share the same space as Cloak & Dagger. They also share mediocrity. Hand have taken over an old pub in near by Worthing and it a definite improvement from what was there before. Wooden caramel colour with no haze. Slightly sweet and malty aroma but all together vacant and lacking. Not unpleasant mind you. It's watery, very light and drinkable but almost to the extent of being pointless. The flavour matches the aroma: malty, caramel, slight nondescript fruit and disappointment! Ha no, it's not that bad. Is there even a way to make a craft bitter? Not a bitter west coast IPA but a craft English bitter. Probably not. It is what it is by nature. It's much like the ale that the pub hand took over this year used to serve. Nothing wrong with it and some English ales are really quite nice. This one is on the generic side, just like their approach. £3.60, cheap for a craft brew... expensive for a bitter. It's inoffensive and not bad, I feel guilty being so unimpressed but I am comparing this to an array of high quality artisan craft beer and so I am justified.
