Homebrewed Small Beer #2. This time the flavoring is rowanberry that I picked last fall, put them in the freezer, and used for this beer.
The color of the beer is sludgy brown with a moderate red hue. Carbonation is still restrained. Pity. A bright white, tiny-bubbled head manages to climb to half a finger only. It retains as a thin lace ring for substantially longer.
The malty scent is evident, accompanied by rowanberry. I can also find a bit of lemon zest in the olfactory provision.
Rowanberry comes forward proudly on the tongue, with head up high. No wonder, I squeezed the juice of the soaked berries in the wort. I like the fact that is not shy but, on the other hand, it overshadows the malty characteristics. Lemon can still also be spotted, followed by a whisper of lingonberry.
The body is thin. The finish gives both rowanberry and a pinch of lingonberry on a subdued malty bed. The end takes its time on the taste receptors.
The mouthfeel is thin, decently tart, juicy and a bit autumnal. Still also modestly flat. Reasonable but not a winner.
