Small Beer: Dandelion, Finland

Long time, no Small Beers. Time to correct the situation. First of the series of three. Dandelion is the flavoring. This and the two other versions have been brewed of the second runnings of the upcoming Juhannussahti. The beer colors murky, raisin brown. The lame carbonation creates a subdued off-white lacing on the top, and it retreats soon to the sides. As such, the ring is, however, sustained. The beer may still be too young as the carbonation behaves so timidly. The nose receives moderate dark chocolate, lemon and a remote floral note. Can't really say if it's dandelion or something else. The chocolate originates certainly from the primary Sahti wort that contains chocolate malt. The taste is refreshing, light-malty, faintly chocolatey, also a bit grainy. Lemon, blackcurrant tea and a tad dandelion season the palette. Dandelion is indeed recognizable as I have tasted it before, both leaves and flower. The leaf tastes like lettuce when young but turns pungent grassy later. The flower has a peculiar nuance that is not particularly inspiring. The same uninspiring aroma is observable in the beer. Anyway, I'm glad that the dandelion flavor is noticeable although it doesn't thrill me. It is what it is. I would be more disappointed if I applied something in the beer which I wouldn't even find there. The body of obviously thin. Yes, thin it is. The finish is surely identical to upfront. It lingers on the taste receptors for some time. The mouthfeel is thin, refreshing, springly and faintly floral. It's also still flat, but I'm sure that the carbonation will develop. Maybe I'll come back to this beer after a couple of weeks. Let's see. I just gulped one earlier beer flavored with blackcurrant leaf. It was bottled one year ago, and it's still very nice in it's own genre.
