Solidøl Shabo Muscat Wine Barrel Aged, Ukraine
4.2
(Moved from a wrong beer to the correct one) Solidarity beer #6. 🇺🇦 A Barley Wine sounds like a treat. Everything here looks luxurious: the form of the bottle, the minimalistic all-black lable with embossings, the small iron-colored brewery logo seal, the black wax cap and the paper strip on the top of the cap and neck. According to the details, this seems to be a 2021 vintage. Bottle number is 161. Oh yes! Let's rock! The bottle releases transparent mahogany liquid. Aged carbonation attempts to lay a lacing, but all that emerges there, is a shy, cappuccino-colored ring on the top. Soon the surface is entirely still. Raisin, fig and brown sugar, at least, crawl towards my nose. None of them is particularly bold, rather vice versa. There's a remote barrel nuance in the air but it's difficult to recognize because of its weakness. My guess at this stage is sweet plum wine. The somewhat thick beer sings seductive siren songs to my tastebuds. Hefty syrup, date, raisin, dried plum and purple grape constitute the sweet cocktail in my mouth. A hint of vanilla escorts the crew. Sweet red wine barrel looms discreetly in the shadows. The taste is extraordinarily sweet: I checked the label data which indicate that 100 ml of this nectar gives 452 kcal. It's relatively at the same level as chocolate bar. Two small 330 ml bottles would cover an average man's daily calorie intake. 😨 Gosh, that makes me silent. I'm trying to gather myself and continue. Tough. [...] Alright, here I am. The body is less robust than I anticipated. Not does even the sweetness make this big enough. I would say that the body is medium — it feels like medium-full but having disaggregated the effect of the sugar overload, my verdict is: medium. The finish itself doesn't much deviate from the beaten track, maybe the sweet red wine barrel gains a bit more space around it but otherwise the syrupy sensation prevails. The mouthfeel is medium-full, sappy — really sappy as a matter of fact,— and sticky. It's rather thick, barrel aged, beautifully mature, elegant and gentle. Velvety and smooth, of course. Offers a bit of complexity but is not exactly layered. Still, a nice slow sipper despite the body that should be bigger.
