Les Barriques Ambrée Au Rosé De Gamay De Soral, Switzerland
4.4
Beer 5/5. Lucid, light copper beer with a pure white, bubbleless head that climbs lazily up to half a finger and then settles down to the sides. The olfactory sphere is really intriguing: powerful apple, more discreet cherry, maybe a suggestion of sweet pear, strawberry, oak barrel, even a drop of syrup and biscuit. Like calvados. Sounds odd. It is odd! But in a good way of course! The substantially promising scent flattens somewhat when the experience moves from the nose to the tastebuds. I'm picking now apple juice, cherry, rosehip and oak barrel. The calvados side is replaced by very fruity wine, could be fruit wine but also very fruity red wine. In addition, there's a sweeter tone in this, maybe it's the syrup that I find in the scent but can also be modest honey. The body is medium-full. The finish gears more toward sweet dessert wine with the barrel note still lingering nicely in the mouth. The mouthfeel is strong, medium-full, vinous, dry and drying. It's somewhat tart and puckering but not strongly so. I like the barrel aged style, lovely woody punch, innovativeness and stepping out of the crowd. Good stuff! The best of this series! 🧡🧡🧡
