Driftwood not only has great beers, they have some amazing label art. Happily sharing it lovely aromas, this abbey ale gifts my nose with a predominant Belgian yeast, a very tiny bit of clove, and citrusy tropical fruit. There seems to be some spiciness and what I was interpreting as a slightly sour scent. After reading the label more closely it is probably from some included brettanomyces. A rich full flavour that finishes rather dry, a medium body, and nicely carbonated. The palate includes floral Belgian yeast notes with a gentle spiciness and equally gentle citrus flavors. The hops used are obvious but not unpleasant and tamed with the brett lend an agreeable bitterness that leans a bit toward tart. I'm not sure how "abbey" it is but it is unarguably delicious. Near the end of the drink it occurs to me that this is almost an IPAA. India pale abbey ale. Those hops really do linger on the sides of the tongue but not offensively. I like it.
