Brewer's Reserve Cassian Sunset (2021), United States

Vintage 2021. The beer wears a murky black tuxedo. A velvety, cappuccino-colored head thickens up to one finger and dissolves then fast to a thin lace ring on the top. No splatters on the rim of the glass can be observed but a gossamer haze wafts there. The scent sings a siren song to my nose: overwhelming Bourbon and an astonishingly hefty load of vanilla twerk appealingly. Bourbon mingles with pear, apple, plum and a whisper of raisin. A sweet, dangerously sugared coffeeish vibe and syrup can also be depicted. The taste is syrupy, alcoholic and quite light: I'm getting ample fruity Bourbon with raisin, a bit of syrup, molasses, dark plum and a sigh of blackcurrant. Coffee is really subdued on the tongue, unlike vanilla that performs more bravely but not as arrogantly as in the air. Cinnamon is really difficult to spot but eventually I manage to recognize it among multiple elements. The body is medium. It should be more robust at this high an ABV. The finish offers syrup, raw cacao powder, dark plum and generous Bourbon with a good slam of ethanol. The aftertaste dreams of Wisconsin and US Highway Number Two for some time. The mouthfeel is intense, alcoholic, definitely lip-glueing and warming. It's also somewhat light, heavily barrel aged and relatively deep. I would certainly welcome richness and complexity but this time I don't get them. Reasonably tasty though.
