Normally I wouldn’t go for beer with such a name but I’m a sucker for gingerbread. Never tried Play Brew Co before either, their beers always seem fun but their artwork puts me off. Anyway, the beer. A weird first taste, almost metallic. After a few sips the taste settles in and the tastebuds chill out. It’s got an alright flavour, not as sweet as I was expecting, which is good. The gingerbread dominates and there isn’t much evidence of the vanilla or chocolate essence until the end. What let’s this beer down slightly is the aftertaste which reverts back to the metallic taste from earlier. It’s really synthetic and prominent. Bearing in mind the essence is chocolate, couldn’t that flavour have been achieved through malts and cocoa nibs? Not a bad beer but won’t be rushing back to try another of theirs after this.
