Larry Bell, founder of Bell's Brewery has recently retired after over 35 years. Don't worry, Bell's isn't going anywhere. They've been bought by Lion, so while they're technically not craft beer anymore, here's to hoping the quality doesn't get worse. This is the last beer he worked on as the owner of Bell's. Roasted malts, chocolate and light coffee notes in the aroma. Taste has roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, just like the aroma. The roastiness lingers in the aftertaste. The body is medium-full, almost full bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and an appropriately low amount of carbonation. This isn't a special bourbon barrel aged stout. This isn't some super flavorful pastry stout. This is, however, a very well made imperial oatmeal stout and a very fitting send-off. Slightly warming, great for a cold Michigan night. Enjoy retirement Larry! High 4.25/5 Side note: At some point, I'll add my backlogs. I've got around 4 months worth, so I'll likely break it up into months, instead of all at once. Cheers!
