Now something else. My first Fidens. From the United States of Hops. This beauty bears a fully turbid, peachy gown. Looks extremely smoothie-like. Yumm! Carbonation behaves obediently and pushes up a white creamy head that balloons two fingers thick. Retention is long. A dense lacing adorns the top and leaves a pretty billowy mess on the sides. Oh Lord, looks simply irresistible. 💛💛 The fragrance organizes a massive tropical spectacle: mango, pineapple and papaya blend into a nutritious package. Smaller injections of mushy guava, a pinch of green grape and remote grapefruit pith loom a bit in a distance until they signal their presence less timidly. This unbelievable fruit salad merges with shortcrust pastry. Unreal! Just unreal. 💛💛💛 The tastebuds are so eager that they almost sh*t in their pants. I don't want to keep them tethered anymore. Attack! Whoaah! Lovely but not what the olfactory triumph suggests. Whaaat?? Harsher elements replace the balmy nuances on the tongue: pine needles and resin are the new emperors! Grapefruit peel, lemon pith and a whisper of raw pineapple scratch my enamel. Is there lactose in the beer? I'd swear there is. The taste is no joke. This is serious! Clean as heaven with innovative vibes of the New World. How do I see the different flavor combination in comparison to the scent? I experience compexity. The scent starts the journey in Vermont but the taste leads eventually towards the West Coast. At least up to the forests of Wyoming. And this is not a New England style DIPA, thus, this is not supposed to be a fruit smoothie. This is unapologetic and bold, yet not aggressive at all. Can't help but I love it! 💛💛💛 The body is appealingly full, yet the ABV is not more than 8.5 %. The finish is piney and resinous, strongly dry-grassy and bleedingly bitter citrusy. Still, a silent sigh of lactose spies behind the trees. The flavor spectrum narrows from upfront, which happens almost always. Hop burn follows in the end. Mmmm!! Seductive hop burn... Not too overwhelming but detectable for sure. The aftertaste slaps the tastebuds on the face over and over again. And even more. The mouthfeel is full, soft, creamy but also quite piney and a tad resinous. It's relatively dry and a bit husky but not particularly drying, moderately yes though. Crisp, absolutely. I'd say that this beer is very clean and balanced as well as complex, which is witnessed by the interplay of the scent and taste. Yin and yang. With one word: PHENOMENAL! This is a good day to get back to business. 👍🏻
