2021 Cognac Barrel French Press
9.3% Imperial Porter
Geisha coffee - one of the world's most expensive and sought after varieties - is known for its berry and fruit forward flavors. For this beer, we worked with our local friends at Java Pura to source Anaerobic Cascade Hopped Geisha beans from Ratibor Hartmann's Mi Finquita Microlot in Panama. Even at $100/lb, we were happy to purchase the last of the lot.
The end result is a coffee with potent notes of blueberry, citrus, raspberry, and black tea. On top of the acute flavors of grape brandy imparted by the Cognac barrels, this beer has a truly wild fruit forward profile.

Extremely excited to try this very, very limited edition Imperial coffee porter. Using Geisha coffee and aged a year in cognac barrels should make for an unusual experience. Gift from son son-in-law, we will try together on the internet.
Short, almost no head. Aroma is fruity, light notes of chocolate, a touch of oak. Soft texture. Immediately get a combination of dark dried cherry and raspberries, mild breakfast coffee, followed by a barrel aged alcohol that's new to me. I'm not much of a cognac drinker. The finish adds a mild alcohol burn, oak barrel aging is distinctive. Chocolate appears, along with a whiff of toffee and a slightly stronger bitter coffee. The finish is bittersweet and very dry.
This is an excellent beer. Will try to get some for the beer celler.
