Bourbon Brandy Medianoche
13.4% Imperial Stout
Bourbon Brandy Medianoche has been over two years in the making, but it was certainly worth the wait! This batch of Medianoche spent 24 months in 2016 Woodford Reserve® Master Collection™ barrels, which were former American oak brandy casks used to finish mature Woodford Reserve for over two years. At 24 months in barrels, Bourbon Brandy Medianoche has officially set the bar for the longest we have aged any Medianoche variant, and the results from the extended aging in these special barrels speak for themselves!

Together with Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), I tried to choose a slow sipper to accompany me and my better half. BEER: Bourbon Brandy Medianoche (2018) BREWERY: WeldWerks Brewing Co. BEER STYLE: Imperial Stout (BA) COUNTRY: USA ABV.: 13.4% COLOUR (EBC): Dark Reddish Black (82.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: Tight. Oaky, bit red winey. Brandy forwarded. HEAD: Fights to reach one finger height. GREY’S VIEW Former American Oak Brandy Casks turned into Woodford Reserve Master Collection Bourbon use. Imperial Stout aged for 24 months in those Barrels. First sip is slow. Taste evolves long before it decides that it’s enough. There’s Brandy liquor sweetness and burnt wood infront, which also carries some ash value with it. Chocolate ganache rises steadily upfront with stealthy darkberry juiciness. It has blackberry and blackcurrant mostly. Turns towards dark chocolate with lip gluing brown sugars also there in the end. Mouthfeel is fast paced with low amount and lazy carbonation. It’s much like some Red Wine - Russian Imperial Stout hybrid, which I gotta admit, are usually my favourites. It’s almost entirely dry, but as in sensible way. OTHER NOTES: Indeed, not the easiest piece. Red wine characteristics are strong with some RIS elements as well. Dark berries, some chocolates, oak and burnt wood. Delightfully slow, and I gotta admit that this really is stylish one. BOTTLED 11/2018 TASTED 12/2021
