Genève Ambrée Ale, Switzerland

Back to Geneva 🇨🇭 Genève Ambrée Ale has a perfect name for this occasion. Hazy, deep copper beer with brisk carbonation creates a fluffy creamy head that falls short of two fingers. Short retention pushes the foamy cap down to a mere haze on the top. No splatters cling to the rim of the glass. Caramel and toffee are the key players in the scent. Even faint taisin and a suggestion of butterscotch can be imagined in the fragrance. Promises quite an easy enjoyment. The taste receptors receive caramel, a bit of raisin – maybe fermented –, nectarine skin, grapefruit pith and a gentle hoppy slam. Generally speaking, the maltiness is certainly observable but still not generous. Not bad though. The body is light. The finish is marginally more bitter with caramel, citrus and hoppy elements. The aftertaste brokers for peace after medium-long negotiations. The mouthfeel is semisoft, smooth, moderately crisp as well as easy and gluggable, especially for an Amber Ale. Hence, a tad characterless.
