OWA Medianoche 0.0%, WeldWerks Brewing Co, United States
1 notes
OWA Medianoche
0.0% Imperial Stout
When we finally got our hands on freshly emptied 6-8 year-old Weller wheated bourbon barrels, which were admittedly bucket-list barrels for us given our love of OWA, we took the opportunity to craft a new Medianoche recipe specifically for these iconic casks. Leaning into the distinctly soft mouthfeel and unique flavors imparted by the wheated mash used in Old Weller Antique, we incorporated four different wheat malts to make up 35% of the mash bill for this wheated batch of Medianoche. After aging this intentionally redesigned batch of Medianoche in OWA barrels for over 22 months, the resulting blend expresses notes of vanilla beans, maple candies, dark chocolate almond bark, salted caramels, honey dates and dried dark cherries.

BEER: OWA Medianoche BREWERY: WeldWerks Brewing Co. BEER STYLE: Imperial Stout (BA) COUNTRY: USA ABV.: N/A COLOUR (EBC): Pitch Black (100.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: It opens up so slowly! After a good while, the Bourbon starts to wake up bringing leafy garden feel and dry roasted malts along with it. There’s also loads of chocolates and sugar too to be found there. Take your time with it. HEAD: Thick, dark brown, two finger tall mudcakey. GREY’S VIEW Imperial Stout made w/ 4 different wheat malts then aged for 22 months in Old Weller Antique Bourbon Barrels. It pours to my being like agile liquid chocolate with strong OWA Bourbon notes. It’s brown sugary, surprizingly easy with malts, giving liquorice, sauna wood, seashory stones and even hints from mussels. It also has some dark berry elements to it. It’s lovely and really dark piece. There’s a strong sense of mature red wine in there. Body is easygoing and only medium leveled, which is something new for it being Medianoche after all. Bubbles are close to nonexistent as the brownsugars and malts works on behalf of them. Sweet, but in no way overwhelming way. Aftertaste is long and its really mouthwatering for a good while. I love those hints from blackberries and even some blackcurrants that I get. OTHER NOTES: Looks like the OWA really had the best from those wheat malts. It’s a beautiful one to enjoy; being enough rough with the barrels and taste while the drinkability is really suitable to me too. BOTTLED 6/2021 TASTED 11/2021
