Coquettish Genome of Sahti: Munich Dark + Caramel, Finland
4.0
Sahti time! Growlered 25 days ago. Should be pretty optimal right now. The Sahti colors murky, dark cinnamon. A tiny-bubbled, pale nude lace ring emerges on the top, just to vanish rapidly to nonexistent. First, the olfactory delivery is numb, most likely because of the very low temperature of the drink. I give it time to warm up ten degrees [...] Alright, now I start getting medium-sweet malt, a tad graham cracker, banana skin and a small injection of juniper. Interestingly, I also pick a distant smoky wisp in the fragrance. Yes, it's interesting but not exactly unexpected since we smoked the juniper twig and berries moderately. The tongue experiences right away faint smoke. It's remotely acrid, manageable for sure, and not at all like cured ham. The malty side is not extremely sweet, probably medium-sweet at maximum. It's a bit cracker-like with fermented banana, maybe like banana Digestives. I wonder if they exist... Juniper twig lands gently on the tastebuds and lessens the roundness a bit. The body is medium to medium-full. Not bad but could be more as this clocks 8.4 %. The finish doesn't deviate from the beaten track at all but allows one to experience a warming sensation on both sides of the tongue. The aftertaste sees smoke on the water and fire in the sky for a long time. The mouthfeel is medium-full, somewhat lip-glueing but not exactly sticky, as well as warming. It's additionally distantly smoky, balanced, smooth but also faintly edgy. Overall, quite gluggable and palatable.
