Mesmerizing Genome of Sahti: Wheat + Caramel, Finland
4.1
Sahti time! 🍺 This baby is our first ever Sahti with wheat malt. The share of wheat malt is, however, not huge: it's 5 % of the grain bill. In addition, there's a 1 % pinch of caramel malt. The Sahti pours cloudy, medium-brown. Carbonation is certainly negligible, and the consequent head is composed of a few, short-lived bubbles only. The scent releases wheat biscuit, a tiny nuance of bun and a suggestion of banana. Maybe I'm also getting distant orange somewhere behind the scenes. Not particularly abundant though. Now the taste! Ok, sweetness is quite good. Sweet malt, a bit of banana, wheat biscuit and a bit of fermented orange peel can be found in the palate. Remote toffee and caramel are there, as well. Easily gluggable, I would say. The body is medium-full. That's welcome since the ABV doesn't clock that high though. The finish doesn't actually step aside from the earlier path and fades away after a while. The mouthfeel is medium-full, a tad lip-glueing, soft, smooth and rustic. Quite traditional. It's really quaffable, even for beginners. We wanted to create a traditional local Sahti with an almost unnoticeable modern craft twist. This is it. 👍🏻
