Piano Keys 10.0%, New Belgium Brewing Company, United States

Piano Keys
10.0% Imperial Stout
Decadent aromas of fig and dark chocolate are balanced by the soft, sweet flavor or vanilla for an Imperial Stout that rewards in more ways than one.

Really enjoying having these Duo beers with my son-in-law in Texas. A lot more fun having a beer with someone and talk about what we are experiencing. This is a collaboration beer with New Belgium and Atlanta-based Ale Sharpton Brewing. Medium high tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate. For a 10% beer the texture is not as heavy as expected. First taste brings raw alcohol and a sharp bittersweet cocoa chocolate. As it smoothly marches toward the finish, a rustic wood briefly appears, all while a warming alcohol burn runs in the background. The finish starts fresh, gives a roasted malt combining with a distinctive vanilla extract alcohol. This extract alcohol lingers long after the last sip. While the chocolate and vanilla extract were expected, the rustic wood quality was not. And the alcohol having the vanilla extract quality rather than a beer alcohol, was totally unexpected. Pleasant surprises are the best kind.
