BEER: Extraordinary Times: Beastmonster Aged In Applejack Barrels BREWERY: Modern Times Beer BEER STYLE: Imperial Stout (Apple Jack Brandy BA) COUNTRY: USA ABV.: 13.3% COLOUR (EBC): Pitch Black (100.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: Dark malty, chocolaty, somehow deep. HEAD: Low and dark. GREY’S VIEW Mix of two Imperial Stouts (Monsters Park & Beastmaster) aged in Apple Jack Apple Brandy Barrels. I don’t know where to start? It’s astonishing! It’s just keeps on going with the flavours. I need a cigarette here... Okay. Here we go. The chocolate in this one is the deepest milk-ish chocolate I’ve ever had! It’s so softly milky, deeply and precisely roasted, easy and so perfectly sweet. The maltbase is firm and giving; hay, sauna wood and those well warmed seats in there too. Apple Jack introduces itself by slight apple sweetness and woody. It’s an old apple tree this one, clearly. Mouthfeel is feather-like soft from the pillows of the angels. So deeply soft and firm. Knows exactly where to go or stand. Giving the the tiniest of carbonation to accompany the chocolates. It’s incredible. *sigh* ... but. It’s not perfect to me. It lacks the complexity, which I just Love in the best beers. It has some, but no way it’s close to the best ones. OTHER NOTES: Chocolate forwarded unit with nicely distinct feel of brandy dipped apples. BOTTLED ??/?? TASTED 7/4/2021
