A late night sipper. My souvenir from Rome earlier this year. This is 2016 vintage. Satisfaction guaranteed. The whole journey starts with an exclusive packaging solution: classy design bottle, black wax covering the cork. The beauty is packed in a wooden box and accompanied with an info card of the story and tasting notes of the delicacy. The cork is a wine bottle cork that can only be removed with a wine bottle opener. Not sure if I have seen it before in a beer bottle. The beer wears a deep dark brown gown with a distinct burgundy hue. Carbonation is basically zero. Accordingly, no head emerges on the top. The info card mentions "macro-oxidation" but the description of the method on the internet is too long and complicated to be repeated here. I raise the glass and inhale. Mmmm. Just lovely! So soft and full! The composition can be broken down into copious date, toffee, a bit of fig, prune and raisin. The whole package! I pick also loads of cane sugar in the scent, I wonder if the barrel aging has taken place in rum barrels. I would bet for it. Vanilla follows behind, in a tiny proportion but still. Butterscotch can also be found there. Gosh, this is going to be a long review as the list of nuances is quite extensive... The tongue has been waiting eagerly. Now the waiting ends and I sip the delicacy. Sweet. Full. Warming. Sophisticated. Beautiful. Date, cane sugar, rum, a bit of molasses, prune and raisin put all the stakes on the red. And that's only a start! Vanilla, toffee, butterscotch, dark chocolate, caramel, faint dried apricot, distant banana and even a whisper of strawberry bet for the black, in turn. Awesome! This can only end up in a jackpot!! Oaky notes bring in additional character and enjoyment. Soooo fantastic! Oh Lord, can the body be anything else than full? No, it can't. It's full but not superfull. Mmmmwoaah. The finish carries most elements over to the end, sweet, fruity, dried fruity, those of rum and barrel. The aftertaste admires Caravaggio's masterpieces in Galleria Borghese and refuses to ever leave. The mouthfeel is full, elegant, velvety, gentle, really deep, rich and complex. Appealingly complex. Offers layers. Mature, barrel aged, modestly sticky, substantially warming, as well. Desserty. Alcohol is fully underground. Slow sipper indeed! Masterpiece. Nothing less. 🤎💜🖤

Sunnuntain finaali evästä. Ensimmäinen ohraviini kyseiseltä panimolta. Kauan on pitänyt näitä päästä testailemaan ja nyt tuntui sopivalta hetkeltä korkata tämä. Kaikin puolin tyylikkäästä pakkaus pulloineen 🤩 Pullosta kaatui lasiin tumman ruskeaa ja valoa läpi päästävää nestettä. Ei ollenkaan vaahtoa vaan olut on täysin flätti. Melkoinen oli tuoksu! Enimmäkseen makeaa rusinaa, kuivattua taatelia ja fariinisokeria. Hieman oluen auetessa mukaan tulee hienosti puuta, hieman nahkaisuutta ja vaniljaa. Maussa on todella paljon makeita elementtejä kuten makeaa rusinaa, karamellia, kuivattua taatelia ja luumua, fariinisokeria ja vamiljaa; siltikään tämä ei ole överi makea vaan pysyy hienosti aisoissa. Tynnyrin tuoma puu taitaa tasapainottaa kokonaisuutta hyvin tehden lopusta aavistuksen kuivemman. Hieno runko, aika paksu ja öljyinen. Ehkä liian flätti vain omaan makuun, mutta muuten erittäin hieno teos. Yllättävän nopeasti puoli pulloa katosi lasista.

Much anticipated beer of this weekend. First Birra Baladin for us both. Pours with no head at all with dark color. Lovely woody oak barrel. Ripe fruit and dates, plums and caramel. Excellent malty taste. Really smooth and soft liquid. Amazing beer.

Itse asiaan. Paljon on olutta tullut taas maisteltua ja seuraavana taas tasasatku, joten vähän spessumpaa lasiin 🍺 itselle uusi ja varsin kuolattu tuttavuus nämä Baladinit. Olut kaatuu lasiin kuvauksen mukaisesti täysin ilman vaahtoa ja todella tumman puhuvana. Kaunista. Tuoksu on huumaava. Todella rikasta kypsää hedelmäisyyttä, vahvaa - tummaa maltaisuutta, runsaasti tammista puisuutta, rommista alkoholisuutta. Ensi puraisu. Ai hitto miten ihanan pehmeää ja silkkisen tuntuista tämä on suussa. Ja niin täyteläistä; koko suun täyttävää ja ikeniä hellivää. Tummaa todella pehmeästi rakennettua mallaspohjaa, puisuutta siinä kaikista tammisimmassa elementissään, harrikan satulan ikääntynyttä nahkaisuutta, rasvaisilla käsillä tahrittuja pähkinöitä, taatelia sekä kypsää ja niin ihanasti pehmentynyttä ja hieman hapattunutta hedelmäisyyttä. Se miten tässä tuo alkoholisuus on rakentunut, niin ihanasti muita makuja voimaannuttavana, yhtään niitä peittämättä ja varsinaisesti maistumatta, mutta rommiseen tyyliin lämmittävänä on huikeaa. Se vaan soljuu mukana ja lämmittää rinnassa asti. En tiedä vaikuttaako "pitkä päivä" tähän arvosteluun näin täydellisen oluen kohdalla kuinka paljon, mutta hei. On se vaan _helvetin_ hyvää 🍻
