Over a decade ago we entered an international ABV race against German brewery Schorschbräu to brew the world’s strongest beer. The back and forth that ensued became the stuff of beer legend.
The time has come to pen another chapter in this epic saga. This time, it’s one of camaraderie as we join forces with Schorschbräu for the ultimate collaboration.
Strength in Numbers is a 57.8% beer that reaches is colossal ABV through the traditional eisbock method, which means freezing the beer and removing chunks of ice (water) so that you’re left with the concentrated high ABV liquid. The beer also features a blend of BrewDog’s own Death or Glory, an ice distilled Belgian golden ale that’s been sitting in whisky casks for 10 years.

Ok so it’s strong. It’s my 2000 unique beer. The nose is mushroom stroganoff mixed with soil. The taste is hot and almost acrid. It’s just about drinkable but that’s quite difficult. Strong yes, tasty no, value please don’t make me laugh. It’s like porcini and marmite - I’m at the not enjoying this monumental ale. Sorry Brewdog it’s a no from me.

Here we have something extra special. A freeze distilled beer. I expect it to be something whisky like or simply just boozy, but let’s have a go!
BEER: Strenght In Numbers
BREWERY: BrewDog X Schorschbräu
BEER STYLE: Eisbock
COUNTRY: Scotland / Germany
ABV.: 57.8%
COLOUR (EBC): Rye Whiskey Red (40.0)
BITTERS (EBU/IBU): -
AROMA: It has some! Yay! Rye to go with some odd industrial vanilla. Don’t sniff it too closely or it gives some of those nasty glue like aromas.
HEAD: Nonexistent.

Freeze distilled beer.
Cheers all, here we go!
It does burn, yeh, my god! Somehow, I manage to receive that rye in this one! And I’m all surprized! It’s super boozy and Ultra slow sipper with overwhelmingly heavy weight sized boozyness. True heavy hitter!
With slow sips, it might be a hint more then just a curiosity. Ha! It is pure and still, so it’s up to the sipper to lead the way. Yeehaaw!
OTHER NOTES:
This one is more of a one time experience than a beer to enjoy, clearly. Curiosity, but must try if you have that calling.
Stronger then any whiskey, more like crystal clear booze with hints of rye.
Funny and exciting anyway.
