Sahti 4/5. This is our own brew. The traditional Sahti will be #5. This one was seasoned with cranberries, cardamom, cinnamon, star anise and clove. Cranberries I have picked myself at swamp. Muddy, raisin-brown Sahti with a hazy dark pink tint lays a frazil-icy, off-white lace ring that disappears rather hastily. The scent is simply awesome!! A punch of glogg spices emanate to the nostrils: hefty cinnamon, a tad cardamom and clove. The traditional elements of Sahti are really subdued here. Unfortunately, I can't get any cranberry either behind the dominant Christmassy spice mix. Cranberry comes nicely forward on the tongue. It makes the palate moderately sour, as well. Cardamom and clove are easily identifiable whereas cinnamon is restrained. Small injections of licorice and allspice that originate from star anise can also be depicted. The malty side displays gingerbread and faint graham crackers. I'm positively surprised how strongly the different flavors step forward in the taste profile since we soaked the cranberries and glogg spices only for a day. Clove is the only flavor that I'd like to squeeze a bit downwards as it tends to be moderately aggressive. 🤎❤️🤎 The body is light-medium to medium. Not exactly as robust as I hoped for but decent though. The Sahti finishes with a good dollop of cranberry juice and gingerbread, seasoned with clove and cardamom. The aftertaste escapes from the mosquitos of the swamp rushedly. The mouthfeel is somewhat light, slightly tart, reasonably rich in berries and extraordinarily Christmassy. Successful as to our first experimental, unorthodox flavored Sahti! 🤎❤️🤎
