Who Let The Hops Out (And Put Chili to My Mango?), Finland
3.4
Finally, the third IPA that is a Mango Chili Milkshake IPA. The beer looks unchanged. The carbonation is no different either but the emerging head seems to be somewhat taller. The olfactory abundance seems to have leveled off a bit: the components are there but in a more subdued form. The welcome feature is that the chili is now easily depictable. Therefore, a slight improvement. The taste proves my observation of the stronger chili. It is indeed a tad more prominent 🌶️ Good! The hoppiness has also increased but mango has respectively shrunk. Well... again difficult to conclude as there are improvements but also a deterioration in the form of more oppressed mango. No change in the body. The same phenomenon as upfront seems to prevail in the finish: the hoppiness and especially the citrusy punch have gained power whereas mango has become limited. The chili is depictable although not strong. The mouthfeel has also experienced the same change from thick tropical nectar-like punch to a crisper universe. I gave 3.3 last time. I raise it now to 3.4.

Time to taste the third homebrewed IPA. (I had to hurry up a bit so that I could get the beer photographed in as much identical lighting conditions as possible before the sun sets). Now it's a mango flavored Milkshake IPA with lemondrop chili. The hops are again identical to "Who Let The Hops Out". The story behind this beer, as well, can be found in my review of "Who Let The Hops Out". The beer pours fully impenetrable, deep dark burned orange. Apparently not different from the previous Milkshake IPA. Still odd-looking but I'm getting used to it. The carbonation is arrogant and starts pushing the beer out of the bottle as soon as the cap flies away. I realized this and poured the content hence very carefully into the glass. A clean white, soft, small-bubbled head elevates up to one finger's height. Soon the surface is flat still. It looks like the fruit adjunct is detrimental to a long-lasting head. The nose gets surprised as mango spreads arms and welcomes the olfactory experience. The scent offers additionally orange juice, apricot and a tiny injection of peach. I can also pick an illusion of chili powder among the olfactory components. The tongue likes the relatively hefty mango, some apricot and a tad peach. The citrusy sphere serves orange, grapefruit, lemon pith and moderate piney hops. I'm trying to imagine the lemondrop and am not sure if it's there or not. Perhaps a silent sigh somewhere... The body is light-medium. Again, the impression is likely due to the mango puree rather than malt. The finish follows along the same path: bags of mango puree, apricot and a nuance of peach. Orange can still also be depicted as well as lemon pith. The hoppy touch is fairly gentle. Lemondrop remains almost hidden, it leaves a significantly faint warming sensation in the throat. The aftertaste chops chilies for the tastebuds and touches the itching eye, which makes it regret it hastily. The mouthfeel is juicy, nectar-like, medium-thick and tropical. It's also a bit dry, slightly mouth-drying and remotely warming and spicy for a second. Softness and smoothness are unavoidable, yet crispness is very limited. This is also balanced, somewhat flat and quaffable. Fairly tasty again but I was hoping for more chili. Next time a bigger dose. The journey with self made IPAs will certainly continue. 👍🏻
