The Belgian IPA was inspired by a few Belgian brewers experiences with the hoppy American IPAs and IIPAs, this love of hops was used in conjunction with a Belgian yeast strain and aggressively hopped using noble hop varieties. Since this style was born, many different brewers have began experimenting pairing Belgian yeasts with new world or noble hops, using an IPA or a IIPA recipe with a Belgian yeast or using the more traditional Belgian tripel recipe but using a hop schedule more akin to an American IPA or IIPA. Aroma Moderately high citrus and pine hop aroma accompanied with malt sweetness. Flavour Complex combination of spicy, hop and fruit flavours supported by a clean malt character. Phenols are spicy or peppery in character. Alcohol is soft, spicy and low in intensity. Hop flavours are medium-high with a high bitterness from a combination of hop and yeast-produced phenols. Clean lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. The base malt is Gambrinus Pale and it is complimented with Gambrinus Dark Munich, Gambrinus Wheat Malt and Carapils/Carafoam Mouthfeel Medium body with a moderate carbonation with light alcohol warmth.
