Manhattan Social Club
12.5% Rye / Roggenbier
Imperial Rye Ale aged in Rye Whiskey barrels with cherry added. Other adjuncts are brown sugar, nutmeg, orange peel, and cinnamon. The finished product has an underlying sweetness that dances below the spicy and herbal notes, truly reconstructing the flavors of the original.

Second Duo of the night with Ryan. I love Boulevard beers, they are consistently good. Strong aroma that gives off a powerful Rye barrel that almost stings the nose. Lots of dark fruit and sweet. Not totally opaque but looks like a day old cola. Takes several sips to understand the complexity hitting the taste buds. Immediately getting a woodsy oak along with the Rye whiskey. At first I felt like I was tasting plums but later reveals itself to be cherries. The cinnamon blends perfectly with the Rye. Hard to pull the nutmeg from the rest but perhaps it's just well hidden. The finish definitely becomes to a dark sweet plum, turns gently dry, and very very late leaves notes of dark chocolate. From first to finish the 12 1/2% Rye barrel alcohol dominates the flavor and seems stronger than the amount listed. The flavors added were a good choice that blends with the Rye rather than fighting it. Nice beer to sit back and sip like a brandy.

Cherries, nutmeg and cinnamon in the aroma. Taste has a lot of booziness up front, followed by cherries and nutmeg. The cherries are quite medicinal tasting. I'm not very much enjoying this. I'll finish it, but definitely won't purchase or drink this again. 2/5
