The addition of natural maple brings this premium stout a softer, smoother mouth feel and adds a touch of sweetness to balance the dark rich malts. It is a truly Canadian version of an old British classic.

Tonight's offering has a "Canadian" twist. A maple stout brewed with maple syrup.
This stout passes the flashlight test but does show a hint of reddish brown. It builds a big head as puffy as a wool toque and as dark brown as a moose walking down main street. The foam hangs around about as long as a fighting penalty in hockey.
The first sniff brings roasty chocolate, biscuit/graham cracker and a caramel toffee like s'mores on a campfire.
Second inhale reveals a nuttiness that begins to morph into hints of maple that start to climb steeply like the rocky mountains and quickly become massively predominant. As it takes hold strong and aggressive like a Canadian winter it also builds in sweetness until it is without doubt a maple syrup aroma.
Compared to the aroma, the flavour seems as weak as our dollar. Don't get me wrong, it flavorful but not as big as the smell.
The roast notes, chocolate and toffee come forward first with the maple not far behind. It lingers a bit on the tongue but not heavily. There is a mild smokey bitterness hidden in the flavour profile.
All in all, not too bad at all.
