I'm really didn't know what to expect from this beer. A Canadian Belgian English porter. Uh huh. Things start off well with a ruby brown colour. This displays nicely. It builds a good firm off white head that reduces to 2 cm layer that lingers throughout. The nose is distinctly Belgian but lacks the sort fruitiness or brightness that would normally be present. You can almost pick up roasty aromas but they are hiding a bit of herbal spiciness. When swirled it lets slip a bit of burnt caramel and chocolate, but only a little. It treats the mouth to a rich full body with a porter forward taste that includes chocolate, dried fruit, caramel, a mild hint of coffee. But mostly slightly roasty chocolate. Then the Belgian taste begins to present itself. Yeast spiciness and fruitiness. Then a big boozy flavour enters the fray and the whole.thing comes together for the finish blending beautifully and sharing all component equally. Wonderful, interesting, delicious, and well made. Very good beer. I dig this a lot.
