The second sample is this week's "cellar share". Not sure if the ABV of this particular batch is what it's said in the beer profile. Well, whatever.
The beer is muddy, very deep dark brown, at least in this lighting. Carbonation is quite restrained but I can still admire a thin, fawn head that disappears quickly.
Loads of milk chocolate, cacao nibs, vanilla, lactose and a proposal of toffee throw high-fives in the air. I can also pick faint caramel and some distinct barrel aromas which are fruity and make me think it could be Bourbon.
Chocolate is dark on the tongue. But not raw. Bags of cacao nibs, modest date and a pinch of caramel complement the enjoyment. Rye whiskey feels stronger than tastes. At least, the barrel infused flavors move forward boldly here. Still, I would welcome more layers and innovativeness, this is now a bit too predictable.
The body is full. That's good. The beer ends with a big bowl of dark chocolate, cacao nibs and a good punch of vanilla. The aftertaste geeks in the mouth for a while, not particularly long.
The mouthfeel is full, soft, smooth, sticky, lip-glueing and desserty. It's thick, heavy, barrel aged, somewhat intensive and oily. I 🤎 the warning sensation in the throat. Enjoyment for sure but doesn't offer much change once you've received the first impression.
