Friends took a trip to Virginia and picked this up on their way. An interesting North Carolina beer.
Second beer in a row with a high, lasting, frothy head. Hate having to wait for this to go down before I can try it. In the meantime the color is an opaque dark brown. Aroma has deep dark malt, perhaps a little roasty. Can't wait any longer, going to leave me with a sudsy mustache. Interesting. First I get a dark coffee malt that's quickly followed by some citrus hops. Seems to have a meld of coffee bitterness with citrus bitterness. The they claim it has chocolate but it wasn't until the 4th sip that I found it hiding deep in the middle. The citrus bitterness does not seem to claim any particular variety. It's just very pithy. The coffee is also nondescript, only that it seems like an 8-hour old brew that's gotten stronger.
Interesting beer. I wouldn't mind having another but would never go looking for it.
