Wine Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, Poland
4.5
I have already tasted the regular beers of Browar Miejski Sopot, hence no need to take a flight. Instead, a couple of wine barrel aged beers attract my attention. 👌🏻 Opaque, black beer with a modest, light tan lace ring that soon melts to flat still. The scent is dominated by powerful red wine barrel and faint licorice. The tongue receives hefty dry red wine with a lot of wet barrel nuance. The barrel aging has obviously been so absorbent that I can't find anything else than wine. The body is medium-full. The beer finishes with colossal red wine and dry black malt over medium to long duration. The mouthfeel is massively vinous, heavily tanninic, strong and undoubtedly barrel aged. It's also significantly dry, relatively mouth-drying and oily. Overall, quite challenging but straighforward. No question that the beer is very slow.
