It's that time of year again. I pull bottles and cans from my cellar for my annual Barrel Aged Advent Calendar. The requirements are 1) the beer must be aged in a barrel of some sort. Could be bourbon, whiskey, wine, gin, scotch, etc. Style doesn't really matter, but most will be stouts. 2) the beer must be no more than 16oz in volume. It gives me a chance to thin my cellar some and see how time has treated the options I've chosen to age.
I'm not on this app really anymore, and with me being over a year behind, it likely won't change. I think (at this point) I've decided to still use this app for side by side reviews and Advent Calendars (higher character limit than Untappd). On to it...
Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #1
Bottled 11-11-2019
Bourbon, oak, rye spiciness, maple syrup and light coffee in the aroma. Taste has bourbon, rye spiciness, oak, coffee, smoky bacon and maple syrup, in that order. Some lingering bitterness in the finish. The bourbon and smoky bacon linger in the aftertaste.
The body is medium-full, bordering on full bodied, with a lower amount of carbonation.
For being 3 years old, this has held up well. The coffee was a bit stronger fresh, but that's typical. 4.25/5
Cheers to a tasty adventure!

Hienovarainen. Ei ainakaan liian makea.

Maple, coffee, bourbon, smoky bacon and oak in the aroma. Taste has bourbon and maple syrup to start, coffee and smoky bacon in the mid-palate and finishes with oak from the barrel aging.
I'd have to try this side by side with the regular version to really get a good idea of the differences and similarities, but this is delicious.
Medium-full, almost full, body with an appropriately lower amount of carbonation. High 4.5/5
