Malt og Appelsín, Iceland

A drink offered free of charge by Icelandair, of course I had to try. I'm not sure if this is a soft drink or beer but since it's listed in Untappd, I guess it's eligible here, too. Untappd categorizes this as "Malt Beer", I'll use here "Fruit Beer" in the absense of such a beerstyle. Clear, dark raisin brown beer with orange tint and rich, rapid carbonation unlocks a soft velvety head that exceeds one finger and colors interestingly orange-brown. The head clings tightly to the wall of the glass while dissolving gradually to a thin lacing on top. The scent delivers what the name promises: a combination of sweet orange juice and malt extract. Well, well... The taste is actually quite nice: a copious dollop of sweet orange juice, a bit of orange jam, some pressed mandarin added, and seasoned with sweet chocolate malt and a tad cacao nibs. The body is thin although the sweetness tries to fool one to assess it more robust. The drink finishes with a sweet medley of orange nectar, faint orange jam, brown malt and dark chocolate. The finish stays in the mouth for a rather long time. The mouthfeel is sappy, lip-glueing and soft-drink-like. It's also a bit jam-like and desserty. Interesting although difficult to rate: I use my other similar experiences as reference.
