Juicy Sweeper 7.1%, Alvarado Street Brewery, United States
2 notes
Juicy Sweeper
7.1% India Pale Ale
Minesweeper was our first ever brewed IPA and remains a local favorite at our Monterey Brewpub. With Juicy Sweeper we've taken the same beer and employed an expressive yeast to bring bright tropical & stone fruit notes along with the usual heavy handed dose of Simcoe & Citra, both in pellet form and lupulin powder.

BEER: Juicy Sweeper BREWERY: Alvarado Street Brewery BEER STYLE: IPA COUNTRY: USA ABV.: 7.1% COLOUR (EBC): Orange Juice Yellow (15.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: Soft fruity and a bit malty. HEAD: Swift with mixed bubbles. GREY’S VIEW Simcoe & Citra hopped IPA. Soft and well rounded at first. Some hop pellets and grass in the mouthfeel, but nothing overwhelming. Taste has grass, hay, oranges, cantaloupe, honey dew with those hops. Quite nice and easy to enjoy. Pillowy and soft, with curvy dry hopping. OTHER NOTES: Well made, basic IPA with good drinkability. Ok, I'm really excited about this beer! Should be good. Canned on 3.3.2021 Temperature: +10 C If this is a West Coast-style IPA it pours hell of a thick and juicy, being totally cloudy and "thick". The head is tall but very much soapy-looking with poor retention. No laces or anything: 3/5 The nose is strong with ripe mango, ripe pineapple, and grapefruit juice aromas. Soft resiny notes as well. Flows nicely and the scent is quite fascinating as well but I can't help but feel that something is missing🤔4/5 Mouthfeel is a bit "blunt" with a lower than medium, but very soft body, low carbonation, and low herbal-like bitterness... It's like that something just isn't there!!! Maybe it is the weird and low bitterness, or maybe it's just a weird sensation of the malt🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️3/5 Ok let's move on The flavor has gone away from tropical, and it shows a lot more common citrus and resiny flavors again with herbal notes as well. The after is a bit grassy: 10/15 Well, sometimes a beer just doesn't live up to expectations... Weird beer. Overall seems like a quality product but just doesn't quite work for me. This is an interesting brew but could be so much better I feel: 14/20 =34/50
