Watou Tripel is a traditional abbey beer that is brewed in the classic tripel style. It was launched in 1999 under the impulse of our owner Hans Depypere and although it was originally created for the French market, the beer quickly found a much wider audience.
Watou Tripel is a blonde beer that fills its glass with an attractive, golden-blonde intensity topped with a creamy white head. The aroma of Watou Tripel is an exciting contrast between the fruitiness reminiscent of apricot and a sublime vanilla fragrance. The flavour is velvety with a honey-like sweetness originating from the malt. A subtle note of orange is revealed in the aftertaste.
Did you know that, simultaneously with the launch of Watou Tripel, an almost eponymous cheese was created? Cheese maker Belgomilk (now Milcobel) still makes 'Watou Special'. Both the beer and the cheese have a label which features the Church of Saint-Bavo in Watou.
