Molasses, licorice, oak, cherry, wine and bourbon in the aroma. A lot going on here. Taste has a lot of oak. Starts with the molasses and licorice then quickly transitions into bourbon, then wine, then oak. Some vanilla comes in on the back end. Aftertaste is oak. Complex beer with a lot going on, but just like the last few times I had it, it's just not my preference for a stout. The tequila barrel aged version though, that's a damn fine beer. As this continues to warm up, the wine and molasses are mixing together more, creating a nice sweetness that is overpowering the oak. Definitely a good thing. 3.75/5
