I’ve been celebrating my son’s 12th birthday the last few days and now I’m home, time for something special to reflect the occasion…
This one is a beauty, a real complex mish-mash of flavours that enlivens the palate.
Firstly there’s the honey, no disguising it, it makes up half of the fermentables so is understandable. It brings a nice balance to the drink in the form of sweetness. It’s herbal and slightly medicinal. It really does remind me of a bitters just like Rīgas Black Balsams, some of the ingredients must be the same. Throw in the honey sweetness and it’s almost like a bitters mixed with cola. Tartness from the fruits is there, which lends a Flanders Red element to the drink.
I said there was a lot going on!
What isn’t evident though is the alcohol strength. Minimal alcohol burn is there, it really is easy drinking. Trying to savour this is really difficult!
Great beer to round off a fantastic few days 👍
