Opaque, jet black beer with moderate, short-lived carbonation builds a latte-hued, mousse-like head that climbs up to one finger. The foamy mattress decorates the top basically throughout the entire drink.
The fragrance is truly subdued but I find hair-thin notes of salty licorice, black coffee and roasts. The palate is much stronger and interesting than what the scent would suggest. I receive a generous amount of salty licorice, a dollop of black coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. A roasty aroma lingers mildly in the background. After swallowing, a spicy burning note of chili occupies the throat.
The body is light-medium to medium. The beer ends with a good injection of raw chocolate and bitter mocha, accompanied by a nice punch of salty licorice and -- as mentioned -- an interesting throat-warming touch of chili.
The mouthfeel is somewhat lip-glueing, strong, mouthcoating and relatively spicy. It's also distantly sappy but in a very attractive way. Furthermore, the mouthfeel is rich and a bit burned.
