Time to relax from the concluded work year and get ready for the upcoming Christmas. Homebrewed Sahti from the local village in the countryside is a perfect choice for such a mood. The Sahti Master has this time brewed a bit stronger drink for the dark nights and heavy food.
The beer colors relatively murky, deep brown with rusty hue. Practically no carbonation. Consequently, no head emerges as this is a living real ale. The top is flat still as expected.
The nose tries to inhale this noble drink's aroma that is quite mild: rather sweet malt, fermented banana, a bit of dried apricot and raisin, seasoned with a spoonful of crushed brown Christmas cookies.
The tongue receives strong fermented banana with a slightly tangy twist. Alcohol feels a bit warmingly in mouth and probably explains the tanginess. Alternatively, it may also be that I'm drinking this too fresh: these particular local Sahtis tend to be at best at the age of a few weeks. I also find dried apricot, fruit drycake, a very gentle touch of raisin and faint yeast. The gustatory provision is quite fruity but suits nicely for the season's nuances.
The body is light-medium. The beer finishes with bittersweet malt, decent biscuit, a tad dried apricot, fermented bitter banana and, unexpectedly, bitter orange peel. Alcohol is recognizeable and warms the throat for a couple of seconds. The aftertaste is somewhat short.
The mouthfeel is astonishingly light, flat, juicy and distantly fruit-kisel-like. It's also slightly boozy, warming, a bit raw and lip-glueing but not sappy at all.
